Supporting Social Emotional Learning

Supporting Social Emotional Learning

Social and emotional learning (SEL) refers to helping students develop nonacademic skills, namely helping them better understand their emotions and build empathy for others. SEL has been getting a lot of attention in recent years because research has shown that students exposed to SEL programs have healthier attitudes and behavior, have improved social and emotional skills, and perform better academically.

In SuperSTEM, we embed social and emotional learning into every story, so your students are always learning to empathize with others, maintain relationships, manage emotions, and make responsible choices. Every story is intentionally crafted to champion inclusion and support student empowerment and equity with science.

We also design many of our teaching materials to foster SEL skills such as teamwork, communication, and reflection. In our lesson plans, this symbol  denotes special SEL prompts and activities.
